Congratulations Students! 
Duke Credit Union is excited to announce that Julia Jackson, Louise Luboyera and Zara Ogbonna have been selected to receive a $3,000 Duke Credit Union Scholarship.  
 
A special thank you to all of the students who applied for a scholarship during the 2026 application period.  Duke Credit Union received many outstanding applications.  We wish each student the very best as they pursue their undergraduate education.   
 

2026 Scholarship Recipients

Julia Jackson
DURHAM TECHNICAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Bachelor of Science 

Julia's achievements reflect both academic excellence and a strong commitment to service. As her high school valedictorian and a North Carolina Academic Scholar, she has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award while leading environmental education efforts in her community. Julia has supported conservation initiatives with the Eno River Association and Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association and has volunteered with the Animal Protection Society and Independent Animal Rescue. She plans to pursue a career protecting wildlife and the environment.

Louise Luboyera
UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA - CHARLOTTE
Bachelor of Science 
 
Louise has been recognized for her academic curiosity, leadership, and commitment to making a meaningful impact in her community. Through her involvement in Science Olympiad, leadership as president of the Brown Girls Book Club, National Honor Society and weekly volunteer work, Louise has demonstrated both intellectual ambition and a passion for service. Louise has a strong interest in mental health, and she aspires to become a psychiatrist who provides compassionate, holistic care. 

Chizaram "Zara" Ogbonna
UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA - CHARLOTTE
Bachelor of Science 
 
Zara is a nursing student at UNC Charlotte. She has demonstrated a strong commitment to giving back through initiatives such as organizing a large-scale community fundraiser in Nigeria and volunteering in libraries, where she reads to children and helps create safe, supportive spaces for learning and growth. Her passion for compassionate care and dedication to uplifting underserved communities reflect her commitment to making a meaningful impact.
 

Duke Credit Union Scholarship Program 

The next application period opens April, 2027.
Scholarship applicants that meet the below criteria are eligible to apply:
  • Duke Credit Union member or the child of a Duke Credit Union member*
  • Planning to enroll or currently enrolled in college, Fall 2027
  • Good academic standing
  • Community, high school and/or college involvement (demonstrating leadership, excellence, and integrity)
*Current and Former Duke Credit Union Staff, Board Members, Member Advisory Council Members and their families are not eligible for this award.  This is a one-time award, previous scholarship recipients are not eligible to re-apply.
